About Jack Blouin:
I’m a photographer from Portland, Oregon, and I’ve been photographing my life seriously for around 3 years now—but photography has been an aspect of my life for as long as I can remember. There are photographs taken of me when I was only five or six years old with a Nikon D70 in my hand—which at that time, was about the size of me; and, if you can believe it, some of those photos I took when I was that age I still love today—crazy how that works, huh?
I don’t consider myself any particular type of photographer. I’m just a photographer, and that’s that. I love photographing many things, some more than others, and some less-so. I can go from photographing my dogs, to the streets of downtown Portland, or into the deep wilderness with my lens pointed at a seemingly dull rock in a river. Chances are, if I’m photographing, I’m happy.
A few of my photographer inspirations are individuals such as Sean Tucker, Thomas Heaton, Henri-Cartier Brasson, and Joel Meyerowitz—those are the big ones. But the reason I got into photography was because of my father. He was one of the driving forces for my improvement and success within my photography. Without him, I would not be the photographer I am today. He criticized my work in a meaningful way, and it was the most important feedback I’ve ever been given.
