“Sorry Not Sorry is a group exhibition that features female-identifying and non-binary artists. We take the years of pressure, questioning and judgment that the male gaze has imposed on us and melt it away, so that we are left with complete freedom to define our sensual and sexual wants and needs.

To some, it may mean celebrating sex as joy and not associating it with shame; reclaiming their right to pleasure. Maybe to others, it means power and resilience, wearing a battleground on one’s skin from years of fighting sexism, misogyny, religion, the government and/or violence — and wearing it proudly. Maybe sexuality means vulnerability and embracing one’s imperfections in a world that constantly tells them to be perfect. It may look like working to shed the patriarchal lens from their eyes and finding their way back to themselves through new experiences. Or, it can be exploring and discovering what their sexual orientation and preferences are.

As the curators and fellow participants in this exhibition, we see Sorry Not Sorry as a celebration of female-identifying and non-binary people having agency over their lives and bodies and being unapologetic about bringing our power and desires completely to light. Here, we are celebrating ourselves instead of censoring. We deserve the right not to give in to what we are “supposed” to be but to rather decide for ourselves.”
