Featuring Seattle Artists Alaina Stocker and Claire Donaldson
October sits at the peak of a well-loved seasonal shift here in Seattle, and it’s particularly well suited to the themes of our show. The Wheel is a representation of life and death. With both of our work we aim to celebrate the connection between those two things, albeit in very different ways.
At the center of Alaina’s work is the theme of connection. The skulls painted to celebrate Pride month move through the color wheel. In this way they not only carry with them the symbolic weight behind each hue, but they maintain the heavy reality we all have in common: memento mori, meaning "remember that you will die".
Claire’s work is part of an ongoing chicken tarot card project, with the original paintings of the major arcana cards being included in the show. She aims to illustrate the vibrancy of a chicken's life while honoring its fragility. Tarot readings often prescribe balance and self reflection, making them an ideal pairing with the challenges that come with taking care of chickens.
